  • Known Trivia

    • Filming begun on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 and wrapped on Thursday, October 25, 2012. Additional footage recordings and re-shoots occurred between January and February, 2013 with ADR sessions taking part in March and April.
    • Anna Faris didn't return for Scary Movie 5 due to pregnancy. Other cast members from the previous films, like Regina Hall, Kevin Hart and Anthony Anderson were offered roles but opted not to return.
    • Ashley Tisdale took ballet exercises to prepare for her role.
    • This is the only film in the entire Scary Movie franchise that does not feature any main characters from the previous films, Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) or Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall).
    • Actor Craig Bierko was previously attached as portraying Dan, although he was later replaced by Simon Rex for unknown reasons.
    • Longest break in the release of Scary Movie films at almost 7 years.
    • David Zucker directed the additional/re-shoots from January to February 2013. Main actress Ashley Tisdale told in several interviews that the material from the re-shoots (and ADR sessions) make about 60% of the final theatrical cut. Director Malcolm D. Lee didn't have anything to do with the editings since he was already engaged in doing "The Best Man Holiday" (2013) by the time they did them. Lee didn't even show up at the "Scary Movie 5" premiere in LA for unknown reasons.
    • Not screened in advance for critics.
    • Both David Zucker and the sound mixer, Chris Durfy are avid Green Bay Packers fans and Wisconsin natives. They both have a cameo in the Black Swan spoof near the end of the movie dressed as Packer fans for the Lambeau Leap.
    • Marlon Wayans, who originally created the "Scary Movie" franchise alongside his brothers Keenen Ivory and Shawn back in 2000, told in an interview that the studio asked the Wayans Brothers to return for "Scary Movie 5", but the brothers declined. Marlon Wayans later released his own horror movie spoof "A Haunted House" (2013) which performed so well at the box office that it spawned its own franchise, with "A Haunted House 2" to be released in 2014.

When I write a review for a film, I attempt to give the film thebenefit of the doubt. The late Gene Siskel once said that he never wentinto a movie looking to hate it, but rather look at every film aspotentially great, and whenever one was bad or unenjoyable, he lookedat it as a missed opportunity. In the vein of his reviews, I typicallykeep my cards close to my chest, tackling one piece of the movie at atime and discussing what worked and what did not work. Tonightthough…is a night for blunt explanation! The movie of today…is special. So special is this "movie" that I will be chaste for those who do notdesire to read beyond this point. Scary Movie 5 is thoroughly horrible.

Normally I would give vague plot points of the movie, trying not tospoil much for potential viewers. There is no point with no plotthough. A thin story is stretched across a barrage of pop culturereferences, a random assortment of flatulence and defecation slapstick, and…well that's about it. If there is anything I'm forgetting (andbelieve me I am trying), then please inform me in the comments below.

There is a multitudinous amount of cameos, guest appearances, and namedropping on display in this turd. The likes of Charlie Sheen, LindseyLohan, Ashley Tisdale, Heather Locklear, Terry Crews, and Snoop Dogghave their names attached to this project. One or two of themoccasionally dismantle the remarkably monotonous unhilarity, buteventually the cheap jokes and desperation humor drown the film.

Nothing in this film works. When there are not a thousand referencesand toilet humor on screen at once, the movie decides to belabor onejoke for what feels like sixteen minutes at a time. The film issupposedly only eighty-six minutes long, but I am fairly sure that is acheap lie too; it feels like at least two. Like its sister movie, AHaunted House, Scary Movie 5 is a cheap cash in on name brand value inevery sense of the word. Do not ask which is worse because I do notwant to deplete brain cells on such a torturous question. Ask near theend of the year when I am composing my worst of the year list and Iwill be more apt to give you an answer.

In the words of a fellow reviewer, "This 'film' is worse than RichardNixon rubbing his taint of the camera lens for two hours straight." Donot waste your time on it, you will regret it. Do not waste your moneyon it, you will regret it. Do not waste any thoughts on this film, because that is precious time that you will never get back. Let me first start by telling you that I really wanted to rate thismovie a 1/2 star, but the system they have set up here wouldn't allowme too. This movie was one of the top 10 worst movies that I have everseen before in my "ENTIRE" life. Why? First lets start with the plot,Oh! I'm sorry there was none!!! All I will say is "KEEP YOUR MONEY"this was $15 that I could have spent on something worth while. Iactually spent more time looking at my watch than I did the movie, because it was just that awful. Malcom Lee you must really needed themoney, because this movie sucked!!! I am so used to seeing very funnyskits with the previous scary movies. In my opinion this movie serieshas been going to the dogs ever since the Wayans Brothers stopcontributing to the funny nature of this series. Also, the movie ismore sexual in content than I would have liked and I really believe itshould have been Rated R instead of PG-13. The acting is very poor inthis movie and you would think with the actors that were involved youwould have expected it to be very humorous. I cant tell you how longthe movie was because after an hour I just couldn't take it anymore somy wife and I walked out of the movie.

I love parody movies, and have seen and have in my possession quite afew, especially those that feature the late and fantastic LeslieNeilson, including the previous Scary Movies. The previous 4 are great, they're funny and you can actually have a good time watching them.Laughs aplenty. This one... not so much. It had it's moments, but otherthan that it was just a ho-hum type movie. Didn't have the engagingaction and comedy that you're used to from the previous films, and justdidn't really do anything for me. I like Charlie Sheen as an actor, andhe's can play some funny parts, and this was no exception, but then itkind of dwindled after that. I think it's because the previous castwere not there. I think that if all the previous actors were included,it would have been a great movie.

This must be the worst film i've seen in the cinema, OK I wasn'texpecting much this was just embarrassing and it isn't the least bitfunny. The script and storyline are poor, the sequences are just mixedup and jumbled and you never know what's really going on, sketches thatdrag and drag to fill the majority of the film. No wonder the franchisewas halted for so many years it's a joke. Charlie Sheen and LindsayLohan only have a minute of screen time and the Mike Tyson cameo ispretty lame.

Overall one of the worst and definitely not worth the money at thecinema or a DVD purchase.

A lot of people are expecting this to be bad but they really wontexpect just HOW bad this truly is. Nobody should pay to see this. It isactually embarrassing sitting in the theater watching this. The movieis so poorly done and jumbled around you don't even know what you'rewatching. I can't even compare it to any other movie because its notthe bad jokes that make this horrible.... its how it was made. Thereare some occasional Black Swan parody moments that actually areindicative of what a parody should be and are shockingly presentedwell. However that is probably a minute out of the film. Charactersappear with no explanation of who they are and then almost never seenagain. Most of the dialogue in this film is ADR and a lot doesn't evenmatch the mouth of the actors. Also, a large percentage of this movieis basically fast forwarded (which is supposed to be funny) or thecharacters driving in an obviously fake model toy car. Everything isjust thrown at the screen (just as much as feces is thrown at a wall inthis movie) with no plot.

You get the feeling that half of the movie was replaced with newly madefootage which they just shoved in there without trying to put it in acohesive way. It comes across as an exercise in poor filmmaking at itsfinest.

A truly horrible excuse of film that should never have been released intheaters. The Weinsteins should be embarrassed. The only way this couldhave been remotely watchable is if they stuck with an entire Black Swanparody. Nothing here feels like you're watching a film. Incrediblypoorly done and edited. It's so bizarre. There is an entire scene withpool cleaners having sex with each other. I don't even know what I justwatched. So, this is not a godawful movie because the jokes arehorrible (which they are), it stands out as almost an achievement inone of the most horribly put together theatrical releases of quite sometime. Incredibly poor quality that even makes the other Scary Moviefilms seem exceptionally well made.

Charlie Sheen is himself and very funny in the opening scenes withLindsay Lohan sending each other up perfectly. Forget plot, it's aScary Movie film, just like Hot Shots, Not Another Teen Movie, EpicMovie, Superhero Movie and so on.... just a reason for a series of goodand not so good parodies of pop culture films. And, in this case thebook 50 Shades of Grey gets a look in with the unlikely pairing ofJerry O'Connell & Mike Tyson appearing opposite Ashley Tisdale in thatsequence. My highlights were the Black Swan & ongoing ParanormalActivity rip offs, especially the pool cleaner party. Look at it thisway, it's mindless fun, better with a beer in hand. It has it's momentsand for those who care, stay on AFTER THE CREDITS for an extra scene.Ashley Tisdale is brilliant at the dead pan comedy required although Idid miss Anna Faris a little.

Don't bother going to see this junk. It appears to be very low budgetand infantile. I have enjoyed the other Scary movies but this one hasno redeeming value. My 15 year old son said it was the worst movie hehas ever seen. Disjointed. People were leaving the theater before thehalfway point and it is only an hour and a half. There is really notmuch you can say about it except to wait until it comes out on Netflixand even then it will hard to watch. Honestly I can't believe thatafter the movie company watched this movie they had the nerve torelease it. In my opinion this would hurt your reputation as a Filmmaker more than helping by a long shot. There is a considerabledifference in the quality of this Scary movie and the others, none ofthe original cast appear in the movie and it seems to be based mostlyon paranormal activity, the set becomes very stagnant. My son said thatthe actual paranormal activity was funnier. My son loves the Scarymovie brand, he said this one would give the franchise a bad name andhe would give it a -2 if he could.

This is a good reason to use Pirate Bay. The public is certainly beingripped off by paying for this kind of crap.

Anyone who gives this movie a positive review should be suspect. Theyare either being paid or benefiting in some way.

I like this type of movie - this one is just bad.

The era of spoof and parody is dead.

Let me start off by saying that I knew this film was going to behorrible from the start. I had read reviews and knew it was bad, butbeing so infatuated with film and theater, I actually wanted to see themovie to diagnose exactly what made it so horrible. (Insult me if youmust, but I have a lot of free time on my hands and I love all kinds ofmovies.)

I'm not gonna lie, I went into the theater with the hope that on someslight chance, I would enjoy the film. Wrong. The movie was so boringand tasteless that I was actually distracted with my phone for someparts during the film, which is of the utmost rarity for me.

The horrible acting and line delivery dried this film out so much thatI don't know where to begin. Ashley Tisdale was definitely not as goodas Anna Faris was, and obviously, everyone will compare the two. I hateto admit it, but Mac Miller, Snoop Dogg, and Katt Williams all couldhave made audiences laugh with the material they were given, but werejust too dry.

Admittedly, there were some very rare parts of the movie that had asomewhat witty humor to it, but it was only once or twice, and weak atthat. The rest of the stupid slapstick humor was just so lame anddragging. Slapstick humor should stay within the PG level of humor forthe kids.

On that note, the movie had overly crude, and just STUPID sexual humorthat was just stupid and weak. Even hard R teenage sex comedies aremore sophisticated than this. I laughed maybe one time, and it wasn'teven a laugh. I kinda exhaled sharply while smiling.

Overall, there was almost no sophisticated or witty humor, horridacting, and it was all just plain bad. So yes, the reviews are correct,it was horrible. The only reason I give it a 3 instead of a 1 wasbecause hundreds and hundreds of people put months and months of workinto an 85 minute piece of what they thought was art, and giving amovie a 1 or maybe a 2 is too disrespectful to the art that is film.

              9. I will start off by saying I LOVE the Scary Movie franchise, especiallyscary movie 3. My girlfriend and I went to see it on the 12th, we wereso excited because we both love the previous films. 5 to 10 minutesinto it, neither of us were laughing, just straight face. I whisperedover to her and told her this is really stupid, she agreed. None ofother people that were sitting in the room laugh either. I can'tbelieve we actually sat through the whole movie until the end, since wepaid for it already. It had like 3 moments that made us chuckle a bit,but that was it. If I could demand my money back, I would. Little notefor the producers- Instead of paying huge amounts of money to thecelebrities, how about spend some in developing the story and jokes? Iwould say this movie *might* make little 10 years old children laugh, but that's about it.

It was so bad that I decided to make an IMDb account to criticize.

The latest installment in the series of lazy spoofs, this film offersvirtually nothing to its audience, insulting their intelligence for anhour-and-a-half with perhaps the worst collection of blatantlyuninspired and recycled gags ever put to into a film.

The horrendous excuse for a plot centers on a suburban wife (AshleyTisdale) and her dimwitted husband (Simon Rex) moving into a hauntedhouse with their possessed adopted children. From there, the filmparodies the biggest blockbusters of the last few years, but does sowithout a semblance of relevance, creativity or wit.

It says a lot about the film that the only half-laughs to be had comefrom Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan sharing the opening scene – anincredibly stupid and borderline cringe-worthy, but inexplicablyentertaining chuckle at their fall from grace.

It's all downhill from there as the rest of the film plays out as aseries of unconnected set pieces seen literally hundreds of timesbefore. Often, such an unappealing movie is still able to salvage hopeby suiting itself for a target market, but it is hard to see anyaudience group, from 15 year old to stoner, defending this abomination.

One would have to drink Lindsay under the table, smoke copious amountsof bud with Snoop Dogg and/or Lion and snort pure tiger blood withCharlie to even come close to drawing any semblance of enjoyment fromthis disaster. An imminent sweep of this year's Razzies doesn't seemlike ironic punishment enough for one of the worst films ever made.
